UGI to Perform Work on New Natural Gas Main in Riverside on February 29 UGI will perform work on Monday, February 29 and Tuesday, March 1 on a new, 14,000 foot natural gas main in Riverside Borough. The work is expected to begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. and last throughout the work day. Please note the schedule is tentative and may change. UGI crews are in the process of connecting the first 10 customers to be served by the new main, which will bring the facility into service. Natural gas will be released from the line as part of a test to ready the main, as well as to ensure proper odorization of the natural gas it will deliver. Some of the natural gas released during the test will be flared. During the process, individuals in the area may hear a hissing sound, and might detect the smell of mercaptan, the odorant added to natural gas to give it a rotten egg/sulfur smell. This odor may be detectable for several blocks around the work area. Individuals who smell gas and are concerned are urged to immediately call UGI at 1-800-276-2722. As always, UGI will respond to all inquiries regarding the odor of natural gas. Residents living and traveling in the area should also be aware that the utility work will potentially impact local traffic. UGI asks individuals driving through this area to comply with all travel lane and parking restrictions in the construction area. UGI thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding during this project. UGI Utilities is a natural gas and electric utility with headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania.
