The Riverside Borough Council met in the Municipal Building, 415 Dewart Street, Riverside on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 7:00pm. Meeting was called to order by President, Stephen Wagner. Council members present: Vice President Beth Rake, Peter Fleming, John Domanski, Barb Kriner and Ken Gardner and Secretary Lisa Fritz. Absent: Mayor John LaMotte and Delavan Whitenight, Jr Citizens present: Robert Rickard, Stephanie Didomenico, Shawn Rearick, Dough Heimbuch and Mike Trelease. Pledge of Allegiance Citizens to be Heard: Shawn Rearick purchased a property and is having issues trying to complete a handicap accessible restroom for his business in the building. His Realtor, Stephanie Didomenico, reading a letter written by Mr. Rearick stating how this process has been a hardship for them, as they would like to open their business. Council President, Steve Wagner stated he will meet with the Zoning Officer and the Building Code Representative to discuss the issue. Old business: John Domanski made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 6 meeting, Barb Kriner seconded the Motion. Approved by all. Peter Fleming gave an update on the lateral repairs; 13 out of 18 issues have been repaired by the property owners. Generator – Council discussed the quote from Hunter & Lomison for a new generator. John Domanski made a Motion to proceed with the installation of a permanent generator. Peter seconded the Motion. Ken Gardner opposed. Resident Rob Rickard asked if there is a plan in place to the generator. Council replied, it is included with the installation of a generator. Borough Life: Barb stated there will be a Community Yard sale on July 15th, more information to follow. They are still working on a Family swim day at Kipps Run Pool and will also have Halloween in the Park. John made a Motion to accept the Boro Life report, with Beth seconding. All in Favor. New Business: Beth announced she will be stepping down from Council, as she is moving out of Riverside. Motion to Approve: No topics to approve. Action Items: Barb asked if the Borough Council Facebook page could be set to permit ‘Following’. Secretary, Lisa will change the page. Ken Gardner stated something needs to be done about the delinquent sewer accounts. John suggested to have the Solicitor draft a letter. Beth suggested cross referencing names with emails in the Borolife email account, then send a reminder notice. Ken mentioned the new bridge light will cost approximately $8,800.00. At 7:50pm, Steve made a Motion to move into Executive Session for Personnel issues. Ken seconded. All in Favor. At 8:04pm, Council moved back into Regular Session. Steve stated someone can be appointed to replace Beth when she leaves Council. Barb feels one of the two (2) people, April Shuman and Brian Whitenight whom both ran in the 2023 Election should be appointed. Ken feels that resident Rob Rickard would make a good candidate. Council asked Secretary, Lisa to post the open Council seat on Facebook and the Borough’s webpage. At 8:13pm, John made a Motion to adjourn. Barb seconded. All in Favor.
