Click The Riverside Borough Council met on Monday, November 2, 2015 in the Municipal Building, 301 Dewart Street, Riverside, PA. President John Novak called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm with the following council members present: Carolyn Bausch, Caressa Compton, Barb Kriner, Lori Steele and
Vice President Peter Fleming. Attorney Antonio Michetti attended this evening as acting solicitor. Mayor Joseph Oberdorf and Secretary Deborah Bausch were in attendance. Absent this evening was Council Member John Domanski. In the audience this evening were two candidates running for borough offices. Rebecca Steckley running as Tax Collector and Elizabeth Hancock seeking a council seat. The minutes of October 19, 2015 were approved on a Motion by Lori Steele and seconded by Barb Kriner. All voted in favor. Brian Anderson presented the Zoning Report for October. His report was approved on a Motion by Barb Kriner and Seconded by Carolyn Bausch. All voted in favor. Chief Kerry Parkes presented the Police Report for October. Chief Parkes gave the results of the Police Candidate testing held on October 28th. He requested the Council hire Kevin Romansik tonight and at next month’s Council Meeting to hire Quentin Reinford. On a Motion by Barb Kriner and seconded by Peter Fleming, Kevin Romansik is hired for the Police Office in Riverside Borough effective this date. Chief Parkes thanked Carl Romanski who assisted by monitoring and grading the written test. The Police Report was approved on a Motion by Peter Fleming and seconded by Barb Kriner. The Southside Fire Company report will be given at the November 16 meeting. The Mayor had no report to present this evening. Attorney Michetti had no report from the Solicitor. Discussion was held on the copier. North Central Digital provided information on an upgrade. Our lease is up on the current machine and we would need to purchase it or upgrade. The new machine will be new and more options at the same cost as we currently pay. On a Motion by Lori Steele and seconded by Carolyn Bausch, we will contact North Central for the newer model. All voted for. Caressa Compton brought up an issue under new business concerning the phone books tossed around the area by the Press Enterprise. The books are tossed in yards, driveways, etc. She had called their office to complain and hoped the council could make a call to stop this practice. President Novak will make a call to the Press and Attorney Michetti will investigate to see if there is any legal action that can be taken. Lori Steele made a Motion to enact the Engine Suppression/Brake Retarder/Engine Brake Ordinance No. 04 of 2015. Motion was seconded by Barb Kriner. All voted for and Ordinance is approved. Ordinance No. 05 of 2015, Per Capita Tax Ordinance was approved and enacted on a Motion by Barb Kriner and seconded by Carolyn Bausch. All voted in favor. Old business discussion was held concerning the fire company truck purchase. Barb Kriner mentioned an article in the Bloomsburg Press Enterprise wherein the fire companies were billing insurance companies for supplies used at fires. A copy of the article will be sent to Attorney Michetti for his information. House number signs are not ready yet for purchase/distribution to the residents. Council members were reminded to come out and Vote tomorrow, November 3rd. On a Motion by Barb Kriner and seconded by Caressa Compton, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm.
