Hunting is popular in this area, and Riverside offers some of the best turkey and white tailed deer hunting in the area. Ring necked pheasant populations have declined in the past few years, however rabbits and squirrels are plentiful as well as other small game. Due to the river, duck hunters harvest Mallard, Wood and Black ducks every season along with Canadian geese.
The river also provides a haven for bird watchers. Ducks nest here during the spring and in the fall as they take a rest while migrating to the South. It is common to see osprey and the Great Blue Heron patrolling the shorelines. Every now and then, you can see a small family of Bald Eagles, which nest in a cliff area just southwest of the Borough. Three eagles were spotted in February 1999 near this area.
